Hebron

Palestine

The following photos are a snapshot of life in Palestine (the West Bank only) and Israel taken between July-September 2016. They are a snapshot of life that is surrounded by conflict and convey how the Israeli occupation manifests itself within every aspect of living.

Hebron

Hebron

Hebron is divided into H1 and H2. H1 is controlled by the Palestinian Authority and H2 is controlled by Israel. Shuhada street (the main street) was closed down by the Israeli authorities in 2009 and, as a result, the surrounding streets that housed markets and stalls have slowly ceased to exist.

The photo below demonstrates an element of the occupation in Hebron. The water tanks on the roof show that this house belonged to Palestinians and the Israeli flags show that settlers have taken the property.

Bethlehem

Bethlehem

Regarded as one of the holiest sites in the world, to Christians, Bethlehem is surrounded by a wall that makes the 8km journey from Jerusalem last 45 minutes by bus. Bethlehem is also home to one of the largest refugee camps in the West Bank. Filled with a constant flow of tourists - a transient population who come and go as they please - many residents of Bethlehem will never see Jerusalem.
